The Festival Voix d’Amériques is thrilled to report!
News posted Friday, February 9, 2007
From February 2 through 9, in wind and ice (man, was it cold!), the 6th Festival
Voix d’Amériques (FVA) heated up the box office at La Tulipe and dried up the bars at
the Sala Rossa and the Casa del Popolo!
2007 marks an important turning point in the Festival’s history. Thanks to a
wealth of wonderful programming and the unbelievable generosity of our Guest of
Honour, Richard Desjardins, the support for this year’s FVA was the best it has ever
had. Besides Desjardins’ Richard Guétare at La Tulipe — an instant sell-out
that went immediately to a second show — many other shows were completely full before
the FVA even started.
FVA 2007: Spoken Word, Music and… Daring, always Daring!

Winters have been warmer in the past six years and, we confess, Les Filles
électriques are definitely responsible for one or two degrees! Every February since
2002, Montreal has been plugging in to the Festival Voix d’Amériques (FVA)
celebrating oral literature, text in performance and spoken word. This year’s dates
are February 2 to 9, 2007 as Les Filles électriques presents the
sixth edition of this high-voltage show!
Alternating between the Sala Rossa and the Casa del Popolo, with a foray to La
Tulipe, the 6th FVA features some 120 anglo and francophone artists to perform for
tuned-in audiences in the FVA’s easy-going and joyous atmosphere. (“Joy is the aim,”
as Mary Margaret O’Hara reminds us.) Richard Desjardins is this
year’s Guest of Honour, and it should be quite the festival!
Everybody loves this man — the socially committed artist, the implacable voice, the
ever upright, always overwhelming presence. This year, we want to celebrate this
“free spirit” who, fortunately for all of us, chose the pen over the sword.
